    Grey filters, also known as ND filters or neutral-density filters, block the entire visible spectrum equally, thereby resulting in light reduction without impacting the colours and contrast. No need for an additional UV blocking filter, as grey filters also block UV radiation at the same time. A grey filter is also often required to reduce depth of field – wide open aperture. In this case, gaining maximum effect however depends on the lens focal distance. These filters also allow "normal" time and aperture values where the film sensitivity is too high for the prevailing brightness.
